GreenPower Motor Company manufactures a complete line of heavy- and medium-duty electric vehicles, which include high-floor and lower-floor models. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which can be used to accommodate many different upfits and bodies for multiple applications. The platform's design philosophy of clean sheets allows for optimal battery pack placement and lower center of gravity, resulting in higher payload to range ratios.
scooter green power REEFERX is designed to meet the needs of mid to last mile refrigerated delivery and catering. The refrigerated trucks in class 4 with a single wall structure inside, and higher insulation than traditional trucks, allows for seamless sanitation and better temperature control. They also have a longer lifespan. The EV Star REEFERX provides superior cargo capacity and an industry leading payload to range ratio that is ideal for zero emission passenger transport and goods.
GreenPower has joined forces with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system, which will allow fleets to quickly change to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star is also capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We had the opportunity to test the EV9 for a few hours on a local highway and found it easy to drive and comfortable for long distances. The ride is smooth on bumps and ruts, while the EV9 is a master of suppressing wind and road noise on the highway. The acceleration is quite quick and the vehicle has adjustable regenerative braking that allows "one pedal driving" by simply lifting off of the accelerator.
The EV9 has a great range and can be fully recharged within three hours at home or using any commercial charger. The driver has the option of choosing between two operating modes: eco mode and sport mode. Eco mode prioritizes the torque as well as cruise control and handling, while sport mode increases speed. Both are a lot of fun to drive and offer a unique driving experience for anyone that has not driven an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings including a multi-purpose electric minibus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used for executive shuttles, microtransit and transit buses, vanpools, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower is currently producing around 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is working to replace their fleet of old diesel vehicles with 100 electric vehicles. With conversational tone to electrify school buses nationwide, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS certified. They are Buy America compliant, and ADA certified. They will be eligible for federal transit grants.
